Deliverance ministry is considered taboo in many Christian circles, but it is a topic that is receiving more attention these days. People tend to be pretty cut and dry with their stances regarding this subject so I’m sure there will be plenty of mixed opinions regarding the content that I will be presenting in this blog post. My main goal in writing this is not to challenge or change anybody’s opinion; it’s to share insight on 5 books that I personally own and have helped me understand this subject better as well as provide some pretty valuable tools and resources that I currently use in ministry today.
Here are the Top 5 Books every deliverance minister should have in their arsenal:
1.) The Bible
There is no getting around this one, and there is no book greater. The word of God is what Jesus used to combat the devil. This is a weapon that every blood bought believer needs to be well acquainted with, especially if they want to be successful in the area of deliverance ministry. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but MIGHTY in God for pulling down strongholds! If you feel called by God to push back the gates of hell, and advance the Kingdom of heaven, then you better be well versed in the word of God!
Below are two Bibles that I personally own and use.
The first one is a thin line, giant print, bonded leather, red letter NASB translation. This one is good for studying and typically stays on my desk. Here’s a link in case anybody out there wants to pick one up: https://amzn.to/3pynP2b
The second one is a compact, large print, red letter NKJV translation. This one is my sword! I keep this in my ministry backpack as it is compact but the text is large enough to read, and it is my go to when doing in person deliverance ministry. If you would like to get your own, here is where I got mine: https://amzn.to/34XeHwh

2.) Free in Christ: Your Complete Handbook on the Ministry of Deliverance by Pablo Bottari
This is one of the best books on deliverance ministry out there! It’s also one of my favorites. Pablo keys in on sonship and identity. His love-based approach to deliverance is incredibly powerful against the enemy and he does a phenomenal job training the reader on how to walk somebody (or yourself) through breaking chains of bondage that will ultimately lead to complete freedom in Christ. I felt God’s presence very strongly while reading this book, and it had a major impact on the way I do deliverance ministry today!

3.) They Shall Expel Demons: What You Need To Know About Demons – Your Invisible Enemies by Derek Prince
Derek Prince is arguably one of the most solid modern-day Bible teachers of the 1900’s. He also wrote one of the best books on deliverance that I’ve ever read! This book is over 250 pages of testimonies, in depth teachings, and even a potentially life changing model prayer for self-deliverance in chapter 22. This is a book that goes deep and will help guide you through a Biblical perspective of deliverance. It’s a very quick and good read that is packed with valuable information that will help you even if you are not in deliverance ministry!

4.) Pigs in the Parlor: The Practical Guide to Deliverance by Frank and Ida Mae Hammond
There is a reason why there are over a million copies of this book in print and why it is one of the highest rated and most reviewed deliverance books on Amazon. This book covers a lot of ground and is great for reference. They even address topics like mental illness, groupings of demons, and intercessory warfare prayer.

5.) Curse Breaking by Bob Larson
This list would not be complete without a Bob Larson book. Here’s the deal, Bob’s a controversial guy with some pretty crazy YouTube videos. I AM NIETHER endorsing or condemning Bob’s character, methods, or motives. So please take this for what it is, and that is simply a recommendation for a particular book. This book on curse breaking works if you learn how to do it right. Bob does a great job of educating the reader on how to systematically dismantle high level curses and gives the reader very effective prayer models geared towards application and ultimately freedom for the person being ministered to. Again I do not endorse or condemn this man or his methods, but I do recommend this book!

There you have it! These are my Top 5 books every deliverance minister should have in their arsenal! It’s important to note that there are many other great books and trainings out there, but when you’re in the thick of it helping someone get set free from demonic torment, oppression, or possession; you better have a pretty good understanding of the truth that is found in the Bible, because ultimately it is the truth that sets people free! It is your right as a believer to exercise the power and authority that Jesus's finished work on the cross paid for. Keep love your number one focus and God will work powerfully through you to bring freedom to those who desperately need it!
I will close with a scripture and an encouragement out of the book of Luke Chapter 10 verse 20: "Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”“
